The Source Group completed six comprehensive environmental compliance audits at hospitals in Northern California. The purpose of the audits was to review myriad environmental operations associated with hospitals (hazardous materials/waste management, radioactive materials storage and disposal, chemotherapy waste handling etc.) to ensure compliance with applicable local, state and federal environmental regulations.

The scope of the audits included: facility wide tours, review and analysis of all hazardous materials and waste management practices, interviews with all environmental management personnel and evaluations of management systems, lead based paint and asbestos practices review, underground/above ground storage tank equipment inspecting; and review of all environmental permits and permitting requirements. Comprehensive Environmental Compliance Audit Reports documenting the results of the audits were subsequently prepared.

Results: Based on the results of the audits and our recommendations, several facilities made significant changes to their hazardous materials management and recycling programs resulting in reduced disposal costs and elimination of long-term liabilities. The audits also demonstrated that sufficient environmental management practices were in place throughout the hospital network for preferred pricing on their pollution liability insurance.
